I just returned from the NAB 2009 Convention in Las Vegas where I attended several dozen panels and discussions about the future of media broadcasting, social networking, the video game industry and Web 3.0. The National Association of Broadcasters comprises all the television, radio and now, new media broadcasting owners in the US and abroad and the conference was populated by some of the top people in the industry – from the heads of Adobe, Disney and Electronic Arts to the maverick, forward-thinking leaders of the Alternate Reality Gaming and HD radio industries. I look forward to sharing what I learned about the ideas shared therein at Blogging-Fool.com over the coming weeks.

Shortly before leaving for Vegas, I and my lovely co-host Aimee posted a podcast episode in anticipation of this year’s conference and ended up having a discussion that applies to both beginners and more experienced users with Facebook, Twitter, crowdsourcing, alternative sources for income online, the art of blogging and the state of the industry. If you are fairly new to Twitter, you will find some tips on what it is, how to use it, the dynamics of life in the Twitterverse and how to utilize some of its more advanced features.

Some of these advanced features are actually not native to the Twitter platform itself; in fact the concept of hashtags to designate topic-specific user groups was an invention of the users themselves, a development that made Twitter more akin to an IRC rather than a Facebook status update.
