Last week several close friends saw a pop-up from their anti-virus software alerting them that their computers were rife with Trojans of all sorts. They were shown the list of threats and then asked to register / upgrade the software with a license key to remove the threats from their computers. The software appeared to be the very reliable, fully functional and free AVG Anti-Virus software. But it wasn’t. One of the ways make your site unique and start building your own personal brand is that little image you see to the left of the URL in the browser line called a favicon that tells people “No, I am not the property of Blogger, I am ME!” Here are some cool resources for making and uploading your own.

I called upon a MySQL/php expert friend to see if he could figure out why my image tags were being stripped upon saving from my WYSIWYG editor, but he wasn’t versed in phpnuke so it was a bit of a long search for him and since I was pulling a favor, I just couldn’t ask him to take on the long search through the dozens of files where the problem could lie.

One of the first mistakes I made when I started building my own “self-hosted” Wordpress blogs was what any kid with a shiny new nickel might – I ran around the plugins directory and gorged myself on every wicked new app out there, hoping to build the Ultimate Star Destroyer of all Blogs with my massive arsenal of killer addons.
This was good for a while, and I am glad I had the opportunity to test out different combinations, but one day I woke up to a text message that one of my key sites had the most terrifying message known to any site admin:
“This Account Has Been Suspended. Please contact us immediately.”
